a talk with nadia, the founder of kálos skin
firstly, how has your day been?
Busy! But, I can't complain.
do you have a morning ritual – what do you do when you wake up?
Since I'm not a morning person, coffee is my first priority. I usually work late into the night and have a more extensive night routine, so that I can get away with a quick morning routine by using a tiny bit of Kálos' Misses Clean Foaming Cleanser and Day Dream to set up my skin for a good day.
can you tell us how kálos started?
I've had some really cool jobs (ones that Lauren Conrad let me to believe would be very glamorous) over the past four years, but they came with a lot of stress. The ten minutes I would spend on myself in the evenings doing my skincare routine centered me. The issue was that I usually hated the products I used and would constantly flip flop between the newest fad in skincare and really simple products. I decided to take matters into my own hands. A year later, Kálos came to be!
what makes kálos special?
Firstly, I believe in the integrity of our products. They work very gently and effectively when you stick with a routine. Secondly, Kálos’ ethos resonates with conscious consumers, those who care about the products they purchase and what kind of impact they have on society as the brand supports girls’ education projects around the world.
where do you find inspiration?
Our design inspiration is simple, with minimalist packaging that features a faint glow derived from the inner glows I hope to impact through Kálos. All of my inspiration comes from the young girls that we are supporting in school.
what keeps you focused while you’re working – what’s your mood music?
I’m still not over Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange.
when you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I’m not sure what it means to not be working! I do love to cook, you can find me in a face masque recreating Ina Garten’s recipes on Sunday nights.
any big highlights for kálos this year?
Kálos turned one! A dozen resilient, curious, and creative girls are attending school because of the support of our customers and amazing retail partners. I can’t wait to see the impact they have on the world in the years to come.
what’s next for 2017?
You’ll see us popping up in retail stores and expanding the line, new products are in development!
